Dear MOPS Coordinator:

As a young mom, you probably know a young mother with a critically or chronically ill child. Like most people watching the family struggle, you would like to help, but aren’t sure what to do. Perhaps my presentation, Ten Things Friends Can do for Parents of Really Sick Kids, could help you and the other members of your MOPS group move your heartfelt compassion into practical action.

Some of the suggestions I share come from my personal experience as the parent of a child who was born with a life-threatening birth defect that required years of corrective surgery and procedures. Others were gleaned from parents I interviewed while conducting research for my book, A Different Dream for My Child: Meditations for Parents of Critically or Chronically Ill Children, which will be released by Discovery House Publishers in the fall of 2009.

If my presentation is of interest to your group during the 2008-09 or 2009-10 MOPS calendar year, please let me know. More information about my freelance writing and speaking is available at my website, www.jolenephilo.com. You can reach me via the website email or the contact information listed below.

Warmly,
Jolene Philo

If you have high speed internet (cable) and you would like to listen to some really inspirationals messages from some well known and respected speakers and pastors, tune into One Place (http://oneplace.com/). Simply click on anyone of the many speakers and messages and enjoy.

My favorite is "Insight For Living with Chuck Swindoll" and for the kids, you just can't beat "Adventures in Odyssey". My daughter grew up listening to Odyssey and now her 6 year old daughter listens to it!

Thanks Tina for adding this blog to the Cornerstone Church website! Great way to get feedback and share ideas!

Thanks for the tip on the website, www.pluggedinonline.com ! The quality of the review for the latest Batman movie far surpasses any I have seen elsewhere, so I will use the site in the future.

The commentary for "The Dark Knight" is not only well-written and thorough, but also philosophically well-reasoned. If you haven't yet seen the movie, do read this review before taking any young teens.

We found the unrelenting emphasis on corruptibility sinister, not to mention inappropriate for children. Does one want his children or grandchildren taught that it is impossible to continue to pursue goodness ?

The blatantly unapologetic -- in your face -- portrayal of amorality in the character of the Joker is repeated so often, and so vividly, that one could conclude that this movie is not even appropriate for younger teens.

We were disheartened to see the citizens of Gotham portrayed as so emotionally and intellectually incompetent that they need a hero who lies to them. But, afterall, is that not the same degrading presumption underlying much of contemporary politics ?

This movie is made with such skill that it is a deep disappointment that it could not have showcased the case for doing good as well at it portrayed the human propensity for doing evil.

Good Morning Tina! Congradulations! We should all be very excited about this "state of the art" means of communicating our thoughts and prayer concerns for the women's ministry at Cornerstone. I just read about what Marilyn is going to speak to at the May Conference. The topic sounds exciting. In the next couple weeks there will besome new books in the church library that may be helpful for women in their Christian walk. One is by Kathy Reimer called "The 7 Hardest Things God Asks a Women to Do" and the other by Jill Briscoe called "The 8 Choices Women Make That Will Affect Their Lives". A third title by Jerry Bridges is "Repectable Sins: Confronting the Sins We Tolerate". They sound good, don't they.
Once again, Tina, a BIG thank you. Susan

caution, girls, there is no spell check on this site!
